2009 Vineman Aquaman - Aug 1
In 2009 Jeff Webber and I entered Vineman Ironman in Sonoma, CA (http://www.vineman.com). I entered the AquaBike event due to knee issues (see Knee Blog) and JeffW entered the full Ironman distance. Yes...the title Aquaman is not the most manly sounding event, and is really only about half the effort of a full Ironman, but you gotta do what you can, right?
The swim in the Russian River is funky. Nice water but shallow and much of the time we found ourselves scraping the gravelly bottom with each stroke. The bike course is fantastic - rolling through the Sonoma hills past wineries such as Silver Oak.
Great, homey event and totally lacking the hype and tension of an Ironman sanctioned event.
